His opponent had just landed on his back and appeared to injure him. During the timeout it appeared to those of us in the stands like Billy might not be able to continue. We, of course, were happily wrong. Billy not only finished the match, but staged a dramatic comeback and ended up pinning his opponent to win the 170- pound bracket! His courageous wrestling earned him the "Toughest Competitor" award for the tournament! Here are his comments.

<![CDATA[Junior Jeremy Endara (220) - First Victory]]>Wed, 13 Jan 2016 12:50:21 GMThttp://whb-wrestling.com/2015-16-interviews/junior-jeremy-endara-220-comsewogue-interviewJunior Jeremy Endara won his first match of the season against Comsewogue. That in itself doesn't sound that impressive, but Jeremy is in his first year of wrestling and as happens with most new wrestlers, there is a price to be paid on the mat. Jeremy has been working hard and though not winning on the mat has been getting better. Jeremy's first dividends for his hard work came in the form of his first victory, a first period pin against his opponent from Comsewogue. The entire team was up cheering like the win had decided the match. It was a true team moment. Congratulations Jeremy!

<![CDATA[Senior Tyler Skala (99) - Longwood Interview]]>Fri, 08 Jan 2016 02:49:21 GMThttp://whb-wrestling.com/2015-16-interviews/senior-tyler-skala-99-longwood-interviewSenior Tyler Skala (99) was the last Hurricane to wrestle against Longwood in the Championship meet of the Cory Hubbard Duals held at WHB High School on 1/2/2016. Tyler took the mat with his team trailing 33-28. A technical fall would tie the match, but Longwood held the tie-breaker so Tyler HAD to get a pin for his team. Well, he did. He's a young man of quick action and few words.

<![CDATA[Senior Ed Ford (220) - First Year Experiences]]>Thu, 07 Jan 2016 02:53:30 GMThttp://whb-wrestling.com/2015-16-interviews/junior-ed-ford-220-first-year-experiencesSenior Ed Ford interviewed about his experiences as a first year wrestler after the Cory Hubbard Duals Championship meet win against Longwood 34-33. Ed was INSTRUMENTAL as he was able to keep a match close and keep the Canes down by only 5 to allow Tyler Skala to step to the mat with the opportunity to "pin and win" (which he did).
