Hurricane Freshman Up to the Challenge!

Summer. Universally loved by students as a time to relax, and enjoy the beaches during the two plus months of time away from school. Some students have summer jobs, families go on vacation, and athletes do some off season training. For the Hurricane Wrestling team, Summer means that wrestling season is right around the corner (just ask Coach Bass) and presents an opportunity to separate themselves from their opponents by improving their skills and getting stronger. The wrestlers, have lifted weights and drilled 3+ times per week. They have attended a week long camp at the High School, staffed by Hurricane coaches and guest college coaches. They attended TNT camp in Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, where they experienced excellent competition. Every wrestler had the opportunity to sit one-on-one with the coaches to develop a specific plan to help them improve even further. That's a pretty aggressive summer, right? For incoming Freshman Gage Rubio, it wasn't quite enough. He decided to take on the ultimate test in wrestling, to attend J-Rob. If you wish to truly test your mettle as a wrestler (ask any wrestler and they will know), J-Rob is the place you go. It is the #1 intensive wrestling camp in the country. At J-Rob, not only are your wrestling skills tested and improved, but your mental toughness is also put to the test. Offering two-week and month long camps. (jrobinsoncamps.com/), J-Rob is owned and operated by Mr. J Robinson. Mr. Robinson is a National Wrestling Hall of Fame member, a former Coach of the Minnesota Gophers, 3-time national champion, and 3-time National Coach of the Year. Mr. Robinson is a former Olympian, Army Airborne Ranger and Vietnam veteran, and knows a thing or two about developing wrestling skills and mental toughness. (J Robinson Bio).  Gage Rubio attended the 28 day camp in Iowa last month (July) and returned home recently after successfully completing the challenge! Pictured below with J Robinson at camp graduation, Chase will be a Freshman on the Hurricane wrestling team this season. His Coaches, Parents, and Teammates would like to congratulate Gage for completing this difficult challenge! Go Canes!
