The Hurricanes (207 points) finished among the top four along with Sachem North (255), Ward Melville (249) and Longwood (228). Bayport/Blue Point was fifth with 117.5 points, followed by Riverhead (113.5), Southampton (38) and East Hampton (33).
Westhampton Beach finished with 18 place-winners (top six finishes) including three champions. Tyler Skala won the 113 pound weight class in a 6-1 decision; Liam McIntyre was champion at 160 with a 14-3 win; and Scott Rementer was champion at 170 after a 7-4 decision.
McIntyre had two pins on the day, Skala had two technical falls, and Rementer had a pin in the semifinals.
Three other Hurricane wrestlers made the finals, finishing second: Danny Purkis (120), Dane Mendoza (126), and David Cable (138). Mendoza lost a tough 3-2 match with a last-second takedown by his opponent, Kenny Cracchiola of Ward Melville, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. The weight class was loaded, with three All-County wrestlers (including Mendoza), and two All-League wrestlers from last year.
Taking third for Westhampton Beach was Gavin McIntyre (99) and Jason Montagna (106). Ryan Wagner (220) and Jack Ciolino (132) were fourth; Thatcher Cord (160) and Gage Rubio (152) were fifth; and Cole Hempel (106), Sebastian Gomez (113), Ryan Darbyshire (120), Jackson Hulse (126), Cole Henke (138) and Jeremy Endara (285) finished sixth.
The Hurricanes ware scheduled to open the League VI season by hosting a talented John Glenn team on Wednesday, December 14, and will be back in action the following day with another league match, at Shoreham/Wading River, at 4 p.m.
