Local resident, businessman, and Westhampton Beach Alumni Anthony Bonner recently built and donated 3 benches, made from very dense and expensive IPE wood, to the Kid Wrestling Program. The benches give the young wrestlers a great place to sit and put their stuff when utilizing the wrestling room. They are amazing benches and we cannot thank Mr. Bonner enough! The benches are so popular that they were full of stuff before we could put them in place and take a photo. They will be used a great deal by the wrestlers, and thank you again to Mr. Bonner for his wonderful donation! It's the parents and alumni that continue to make our wrestling programs great!

The Hurricanes headed to Bethpage on Friday afternoon for the Bethpage Dual Tournament. The Tournament consisted of 8 teams, 2 from Suffolk County and 6 from Nassau County. The team breakdown was as follows:
Nassau (Section 8) Bethpage Oceanside Sewanhaka West (Floral Park) Roosevelt Locust Valley Great Neck South Suffolk County (Section XI) West Babylon Westhampton Beach WHB went 3-0 on Friday, defeating Great Neck South (47-29), Roosevelt (43-36), and Oceanside (42-30). On Saturday the Canes defeated West Babylon (69-12) before running into #5 Section 8 Locust Valley. The Canes hung tough but came up on the short end of a 41-31 decision. Finishing the tournament off, WHB bested host Bethpage (46-31) and Sewanhaka West (57-21) to post a 6-1 mark and 2nd place in the tournament! The Hurricanes finished their dual meet season with a 18-7 record by finishing with a 12-1 run! The Canes will now prepare for the League VI tournament which will be held on February 4th at Miller Place High School. Good luck to all of the wrestlers!!! Westhampton Beach hosted Sayville for "Senior Night" on Wednesday and the final League VI match of the season. The Canes honored 9 seniors but only 5 saw mat time due to injuries. Honored in their final home match were:
Ryan Wagner (1st year wrestler) Austin Mahon (1st year wrestler) Jeremy Endara (2-year wrestler) James D'Agostino (3-year wrestler) Dane Mendoza (4-year wrestler) Danny Strebel (4-year wrestler) David Cable (4-year wrestler) Scott Rementer (4-year wrestler) Dan Purkis (4-year wrestler) The Hurricanes took a relatively easy 45-23 victory and now prepare for the Bethpage Duals which is the final tournament for WHB prior to the League VI tournament in a couple weeks. The Canes will have 4 dual meets this Friday afternoon/evening and then return on Saturday for a full slate of 5 dual meets. The Hurricanes traveled to East Hampton on Friday afternoon (1/13) to face East Hampton. As expected, WHB handled the bonackers easily with the final score 73-6. The Canes then headed to William Floyd on Saturday (1/14) for the 32nd annual Kujan Tournament. The young WHB team performed very well, capturing 13 podium positions which included 2 first-time podium finishers and 3 overall champions. The Hurricanes finished in 2nd place in the 10-team tournament that was won by host William Floyd. William Floyd landed 10 wrestlers in the finals and faced the Canes in 3 of our 4 finals. WHB took 2 of those 3 match-ups (160 & 170)

Gomez*** *** = first-time podium finisher The Hurricanes will host Sayville on Wednesday night (1/18) on Senior night which will close out League VI action, and then will travel on Friday and Saturday (1/20&21) to the Beth Page dual tournament. The Hurricanes hosted the Amityville Warriors on Wednesday night (1/11) and appeared to be pretty fired up and clearly hungry for a League VI win. They got that win by a final score of 50-24 and looked good doing it. The win made it four in a row for WHB and upped their dual meet record to 10-6 on the season. Amityville forfeited at 5 weights (113, 152, 160, 170, & 182) but that's a bit misleading because the Hurricanes have two ranked wrestlers in the weights that were forfeited (Liam McIntyre (160 - #5) and Scott Rementer (170 - #6). I you include Tyler Skala at 113, you are looking at 3 of the best wrestlers on the team. The remaining ten matches that were wrestled featured 3 Amityville wrestlers ranked in the county (99 - #6, 195 - #5, & 285 - #2). The Canes won the "battle of the middle" posting a 4-3 record in the unranked matches, but more importantly getting 2 pins (Montagna - (106) & Cable - (138)) and a technical fall (Hulse -126) in those wins while giving up no bonus points in the losses. The Canes outscored the Warriors 20-9 in those 7 matches. Also of note, the three ranked Amityville wrestlers got one pin (#2 at 285) and no bonus points at 99 or 195 which is a credit to the Canes defense! The Hurricanes travel to East Hampton on Friday (1/13) to face a woefully undermanned Bonnacker team under new coaching this year and then on to William Floyd and the Kujan Tournament this Saturday (1/14)! Come on out and support the team!
The Canes hosted the annual Cory Hubbard Duals at Westhampton Beach High School last Saturday (1/7). The arriving snow storm nearly canceleed the entire event, but after some discussions it was decided to host an abbreviated tournament beginning one hour early at 8am. The Canes came out to wrestle and dispatched Hampton Bays 66-15, Valley Stream North 72-18, and finally Newfield 54-23 in what was expected to be a much closer match. The finals round could not held due to the time constraints and the tournament concluded at 12pm. The Hurricane JV team got some good mat time as they filled the eighth spot in the tournament after Holy Trinity (Nassau) was forced to cancel at the last minute due to the weather. The Canes will host Amityville in a League VI matchon Wednesday also at home!
