The Hurricanes hosted the Amityville Warriors on Wednesday night (1/11) and appeared to be pretty fired up and clearly hungry for a League VI win. They got that win by a final score of 50-24 and looked good doing it. The win made it four in a row for WHB and upped their dual meet record to 10-6 on the season. Amityville forfeited at 5 weights (113, 152, 160, 170, & 182) but that's a bit misleading because the Hurricanes have two ranked wrestlers in the weights that were forfeited (Liam McIntyre (160 - #5) and Scott Rementer (170 - #6). I you include Tyler Skala at 113, you are looking at 3 of the best wrestlers on the team. The remaining ten matches that were wrestled featured 3 Amityville wrestlers ranked in the county (99 - #6, 195 - #5, & 285 - #2). The Canes won the "battle of the middle" posting a 4-3 record in the unranked matches, but more importantly getting 2 pins (Montagna - (106) & Cable - (138)) and a technical fall (Hulse -126) in those wins while giving up no bonus points in the losses. The Canes outscored the Warriors 20-9 in those 7 matches. Also of note, the three ranked Amityville wrestlers got one pin (#2 at 285) and no bonus points at 99 or 195 which is a credit to the Canes defense! The Hurricanes travel to East Hampton on Friday (1/13) to face a woefully undermanned Bonnacker team under new coaching this year and then on to William Floyd and the Kujan Tournament this Saturday (1/14)! Come on out and support the team!
